Drive through Constantia and you will see beautiful houses surrounded by gardens and parks. Just 8 minutes away lives a community who have very different surroundings. The suburbs of Capricorn/Vrygrond have a population of approximately 40 000 people, most of which live on or below the bread line.
The CRRA has got involved in changing some of the residents of Capricorn/Vrygronds lives by raising Constantia residents awareness of our next door neighbours and by raising funds to invest in the Education of the children who call this suburb their home.
The Capricorn Education Fund (http://capricornedufund.org.za) is a NPO run primarily by Constantia resident Abigel Sheriden. Abigel is well known in the area as one of the founding members of Chic Mamas Do Care, an organisation that has raised several million rands over the last few years to assist this community.
The Capricorn Edu Fund ( CEF ) is a joint initiative of Chic Mamas Do Care Non-Profit Organization and The Vrygrond Community Development Trust, established in May 2016 and acts on the belief that the health of a nation begins with the quality of its public school education and with the basic human right to attend school, no matter what circumstances one might encounter in life.
We aim to create sufficient funds for the Children of the Vrygrond Community and to impact student achievement, maximizing student potential especially for those who live in abject poverty.
Our goal is to raise awareness of the importance of public participation and the ‘power’ of societal intervention; namely private-sector investments into our youth and the critical issues of public education.
CRRA marketing made a visit to the area last week and discovered a community in dire need.(34.0847° S, 18.4881° E)
