Last year the High Court ruled against a cellphone tower in the Strawberry Lane area but MTN is in the process of appealing this. A date for the High Court Appeal hasn’t been set yet, but it is expected to take place later this year in Bloemfontein.
Letters couriered to MTN’s executive management in March by the Strawberry Lane Action Group requested that in the interim they at least turn off the mast based on the vigorous objection by the community. This request was refused.
In an e-mail the Group have said that they are now escalating publicity around this court case which they say has far-reaching implication for numerous other masts approved as “temporary” structures in Cape Town.
The Strawberry Lane Action Group has released this video to explain their stand. https://vimeo.com/170470262 (4 mins)
